想真正把英文學好，必須要和以英文為母語的外籍人士做聽與說的練習。但是，大部份在台灣教英文的外籍人士都沒有受過真正的教學訓練， 或是只受過很少的訓練。他們不知道中文使用者在學英文時常碰到哪些問題，當然也並沒有把教英文當作一生的志業。他們多半不會一一糾正學生的錯誤， 大概聽懂學生的意思就算了，也無法解釋學生碰到的文法問題。
對學生而言，如果已習慣上中籍老師的課，突然接觸到以英文為母語的外籍人士時，大家會無法適應他們的口音，也會在面對他們因緊張而無法自在地交談。 但如果只上外籍老師的課，除了錯誤不會被個別糾正，也很難用英文去問老師某個中文意思在英文裡要如何表達。比如想知道「寶藏」的英文怎麼講， 但外籍老師不懂中文，學生也無法以足夠且正確的辭彙讓老師知道他要問的東西到底是什麼。有時外籍老師上課解釋的內容也會有很多同學聽不懂的單字， 同學只能大約猜測老師的意思。
針對以上問題，Sammy老師的聽說讀寫課程提供的是「中外師協同教學」，將中文的解釋和教學和與外籍老師的口語練習結合。 讓學生在一開始學英文時就習慣和外籍人士用英語交談，英文聽力也會比其他補習班的學生要好。我們的聽說讀寫班至少會有一中師搭配一外師， 一起聯手幫助大家把英文學好。
English schools in Taiwan have a problem.
For a student to learn English effectively, it is essential that they practice speaking and listening with a native English speaker. But the young foreigners who typically want to come to Taiwan to teach are often not trained to teach at all, never learned the unique difficulties a Chinese speaker will encounter while learning English, and certainly never made teaching English to Chinese speakers their life's work.
Many of the native Chinese-speaking teachers do know these things, but aren't considered good enough by either schools or the public to provide high-level instruction.
In order to get around this problem, most schools use local Chinese-speakers for the low-level classes, and only rely on native English-speakers to teach the highest-level classes.
This situation causes two problems for students.
Firstly, after years of being trained to speak and hear English spoken in a way that is either unusually correct or unusually bad, suddenly having to deal with the sloppy sounds, colloquial grammar, and idiomatic phrases of a native English speaker can be very difficult. Secondly, it is at the highest levels of classes that subtlety and nuance in vocabulary and speaking must be explained well, and the native English speakers often just don't have that skill. They can tell you that something is wrong, but not why.
Teacher Sammy's deals with this by using "tandem teaching" in most of our classes, integrating both instruction and explanations in Chinese, as well as conversational practice with native English speakers. This is done at all class levels, and produces students that can better understand spoken English, as well as become accustomed to conversing with native English speakers.
