於是就以為要講百貨公司在舉行打折活動可以直接說The department store is on sale.
但這也是錯誤的英文
首先，其實在英語系國家比較常看到的是直接寫 sale 或 xx sale (比如Mother’s Day Sale)，或是寫 xx% off
比較少像台灣都是寫 on sale
因為 on sale 指的是物品，某物on sale是說此物以折扣價出售中
比如可以說 Children’s clothing is on sale this week. (兒童服飾本周有折扣。)
如果說The department store is on sale. 意思會是這家百貨公司要以折扣價出售了

正確的說法是：The department store is having a sale.
或是 There is a sale at the department store.

(現在有好幾家百貨公司正在舉行周年慶折扣活動。有些化妝品下殺到五折。)
