pot 和 kettle 這兩個字如果去查字典都是「水壺、壺」的意思
這又是字典過於精簡的解釋害了大家
因為kettle [ˋkɛt!] 其實是燒水用的水壺，是金屬做的
現在的快煮壺(插電的)就是electric kettle
而pot則是沖泡用的壺，通常是陶瓷做的
所以茶壺叫tea pot，咖啡壺是coffee pot
一般要先用kettle燒水以後再倒進pot裡面泡茶
或是咖啡機先把水煮好後再流進底下的pot裡
(有的咖啡壺是金屬做的，可以直接放在爐子上煮，仍叫coffee pot)
不過英文有句成語叫The pot calls the kettle black. (有時要用calling，看上下文決定)
中文裡常翻成「五十步笑百步」
