最近剛好有人在臉書上問了這個問題, 就藉這個機會教大家這三種 ”屎” 要怎麼說
”鼻屎” 叫 booger [ˋbʊgɚ] , 是可數名詞
”眼屎” 叫 sleep (你沒看錯, 這是 sleep 這個字鮮為人知的一種意思) (不可數)
但是也有很多老外不知道原來 sleep 有這個意思
所以很多人會用口語的講法, 像是 dry stuff, crust, crusty stuff, dry crap (at the corner of the eye)
等來描述 ”眼屎” 這種東西
”耳屎” 叫 ear wax / earwax (不可數)
(wax 本身是 ”蠟” 的意思, 所以在 ”史瑞克” 第一集裡, 有一幕是史瑞克挖耳朵後,
把挖出來的東西當作蠟燭點燃, 就是來自 ear wax 這個詞)
注意這三種 ”屎” 裡, booger 是可數名詞
但 sleep, ear wax 都是不可數名詞 (是的, 即使是穢物也還是要講究文法滴~)
它們的 ”單位” 是用 piece (如 a piece of ear wax)
來造些句子:
The little boy just flicked a booger in my direction.
(小男孩剛剛朝我的方向彈鼻屎)
You have some dry stuff / dry crap / sleep at the corner of your left eye.
(你左眼眼角有眼屎)
Most people use Q-tips to remove their ear wax.
(大部份的人用棉花棒清除耳屎)
