這次台北花博的官方正式名稱是 the 2010 Taipei International Flora Exposition
(exposition [͵ɛkspəˋzɪʃən] )
大家注意在 ”花” 的這個部份, 用的既不是 flower 也不是形容詞 floral (花卉的)
而是 flora 這個拉丁文的字, 意思是 ”植物”
所以在英文名稱裡, 用 flora exposition 表示它展出的不只是花, 而是 ”植物”
(拉丁文裡指動物界的生物則是用 fauna 這個字)
不過去年在大陸的花博則是用 flower exposition 這個說法
也有很多國外媒體是用 flower expo / exposition 這樣的說法
( expo [ˋɛkspo] 是 exposition 的簡稱 )
可能是沒有注意到人家這次用的官方名稱
但是沒關係, 如果真的要跟外國友人提到花博的話, 講 flower expo 就好了
