”火鍋” 在英文裡叫 hot pot
(注意: 不是日文的 shabu shabu!
一般老外不會知道日文的 shabu shabu 是什麼鬼東西的......)
大部份的老外都會知道 hot pot 是什麼
(中國人在吃的方面對全世界的影響力可是很大的! )
如果真的碰到對亞洲文化不熟的老外
則可以跟他解釋那是一種 Chinese fondue [ˋfɑndu] / [ fɑnˋdu]
( fondue 其實是歐洲那種用起士或巧克力為底的小火鍋)
”吃火鍋” 就叫 have / eat hot pot, 不必說 have hot pot food
比如:
”涮涮鍋” 其實就是日式火鍋, 可以叫 Japanese-style hot pot
蒙古式的火鍋就是 Mongolian-style hot pot (Mongolian [mɑŋˋgoljən] )
火鍋的沾醬叫 dip 或 dipping sauce
在台灣, 吃火鍋時通常要自己調配醬料
就可以跟老外朋友說: We have to mix our own dipping sauce.
”沙茶醬” 這東西外國沒有, 一般把它叫做 barbeque sauce
或直接音譯為 shacha sauce
火鍋的高湯則是 stock
有的地方可以讓人選擇要哪種湯底
就可以跟老外說: You can choose the kind of stock you want for the hot pot.
