「刮刮樂」在指彩券形式時，如果雙方都知道是在講彩券，
可以用 scratch-off(s) 這個說法
( scratch 唸作 [skrætʃ] )
比如你跟人家說你買了一種彩券，或是你跟賣彩券的人說話時
就可以說你(要)買的是一張 scratch-off
但如果沒有上下文，突然要提到這個東西時
最好在後面加字，叫 a scratch-off (lottery) ticket
比如突然要告訴人家你買了一張刮刮樂時
就說：I bought a scratch-off lottery ticket while I was out. (我外出時買了一張刮刮樂彩券。)
假如要告訴人家你玩刮刮樂中了獎，可以說：
I won two thousand dollars on a scratch-off (lottery) ticket. (我玩刮刮樂中了兩千元)
在此順便糾正一個很多人會犯的錯
那就是 lottery 這個字是指憑彩券或數字對獎的這種遊戲
「中樂透」叫 win the lottery
如果要說贏了多少錢是用 win … in the lottery 的句型
比如：He won a million dollars in the lottery. (他中了一百萬元的樂透彩金)
但是要講「買樂透」，不能說 buy the lottery 或 buy a lottery
因為大家常意識到中文裡很多說法其實是略稱，裡面省掉了一些字
「買樂透」其實是指買樂透彩券，所以一定要在後面加上 ticket 這個字
比如：I bought a lottery ticket with the numbers of my family’s birth dates. (我用家人生日的數字買了一張樂透彩券。)
He spent ten thousand dollars on lottery tickets. (他花了一萬元買樂透彩券。)
賣彩券的人或彩券行是 lottery agent / lottery dealer
造個句：My mom bought a scratch-off from the lottery agent across the street. (我媽在對街的彩券行買了一張刮刮樂。)
中獎的號碼是 winning numbers
比如在開獎後可以問人家：What are the winning numbers?
如果要表達差幾個號碼就中獎了，是用 by 這個介系詞
例如：I missed the lottery jackpot by two numbers! (我差兩個號碼就中頭獎了！)
I missed the $100,000 lottery prize by one number! (唸 one-hundred-thousand-dollar，注意當作形容詞用時 dollar 要用單數)
(我差一個號碼就中十萬元的樂透獎金了！)
