“dead ringer” 的意思很難猜
雖然 ringer 平常可以指 ”會發出響聲的東西”, 像電話會發出響聲的裝置
不過 dead ringer 和聲響一點關係也沒有
它指的是 ”極為相似的人或物”
比如: She is a dead ringer for this girl I went to high school with.
(她跟我一個高中同學長得好像)
平常我們不一定要用這樣的片語來表達這個意思
但下次聽到別人這樣講時, 就知道是什麼意思了
要講一個人和另一個很像, 也可以用 the spitting image of... (spit and image of ...)
比如: She is the spitting image of her mother.
但這個片語不會用來指物品

指的是一匹被用來冒充很厲害的賽馬的普通馬, 目的是要騙賭馬者的錢
而 dead 這個字在這裡的用法當然不是 ”死的”
dead 有時是 ”極為...”, “完全是...” 的意思
像 I’m dead serious. 就是 ”我(對這件事)是很認真的”
a dead shot 就是完全命中的一槍或一擊
